Therapy, Counselling and Mental Health Support
At Nautical Minds Fraser Coast, we recognise that life can sometimes feel like navigating changing tides and rough waters. At times, unexpected storms, uncertainty or difficult passages can leave us feeling overwhelmed or unsure of our direction.
Our approach combines person-centred care with evidence-informed counselling and psychotherapy. We recognise that mental health is influenced by many interconnected factors, including our experiences, relationships, physical wellbeing, environment and stress responses.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we take the time to understand your unique journey, strengths and goals. Together, we work towards developing the insight, skills and resilience needed to navigate life's challenges and move towards greater wellbeing.
Counselling and psychotherapy can support people experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological and life challenges.
We support adults and adolescents experiencing concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, low self-esteem and major life transitions.
Therapy provides a confidential space to better understand your experiences, develop insight, build coping strategies and work towards meaningful change.
An Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) is a mental health professional accredited through the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) who has specialised training and experience in assessing and supporting people experiencing mental health concerns.
AMHSWs provide evidence-informed counselling and psychotherapy services and support people experiencing a range of mental health challenges. Where eligible, services may be accessed through a Mental Health Treatment Plan provided by a GP.
Counselling and psychotherapy both provide a supportive and confidential space to explore mental health concerns, emotions, thoughts, behaviours and life experiences.
Counselling often focuses on current challenges, coping strategies, problem-solving and navigating life circumstances.
Psychotherapy may involve deeper exploration of patterns, experiences, relationships and the factors that influence emotional wellbeing over time.
Our therapy is tailored to each person's needs, goals and experiences.
A biopsychosocial approach recognises that mental health is influenced by a combination of biological, psychological and social factors.
This includes considering a person's thoughts and emotions, life experiences, relationships, physical health, sleep, lifestyle factors, environment and stress responses.
We consider the whole person and work collaboratively to understand the factors influencing distress, resilience and wellbeing.
Stress is a normal response that helps us adapt to challenges and demands. However, when stress becomes ongoing or overwhelming, it can affect emotional wellbeing, sleep, concentration, relationships and physical health.
Chronic stress can influence the body's stress response systems, including the way the nervous system responds to perceived threats.
Understanding these patterns can help people develop strategies to improve emotional regulation, resilience and overall wellbeing.
A counselling or psychotherapy session provides a confidential space to explore your experiences, emotions, challenges and goals.
Initial sessions generally focus on understanding what has brought you to therapy, your background, current concerns and what you would like to achieve.
Together, we identify areas to focus on and approaches that may support your wellbeing. Therapy is collaborative, meaning you remain actively involved in deciding what you would like to work on.
The length of therapy varies depending on each person's circumstances, goals and the concerns they are seeking support with.
Some people benefit from shorter-term support focused on a specific challenge, while others may choose longer-term psychotherapy to explore deeper patterns, experiences and ongoing wellbeing.
Progress is reviewed collaboratively to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.
